Runway Fashion - Marc Jacobs Spring 2010-11

INSPIRATION: Sir Jacobs always derived inspiration from a variety of sources for his collections. This season was no exception. Today he riffed off of deconstructed ballerinas from Russia with a tinge of Martha Graham thrown in for good measure. (Given the powder white faces of the models and their flat wooden sandal footwear, we also think said dancers might have been on their way to Asia.

Beautiful Fitted army jacket with ruffled mini skirt; blush-colored mini dress with floral applique; pale handkerchief hem dresses with red print and dangling pearls; translucent tulle gown with black piping

ACCESSORIES:
Messenger bags in brown leather; oversized handbags in a metallic bronze hue; kitten heel flip-flops; aforementioned flat wooden sandals

WHO WAS THERE:
Emma , Madonna, Lady Gaga, Rihanna every fashion editor known to mankind, internet sensations

WHAT WE THOUGHT:
One never knows what's going to come around the corner at Jacobs' show - starting with the entrance. There was no ornate backdrop this season but instead everyone was ushered into an extremely bright white plaster cube with bench seating (read: everyone is in the front row except for those with standing tickets.

Once the techotronic boom of the speakers sounded off the collective was treated to models wearing sheer spangled stockings and body suits under their ruffled minis and ornately decorated dresses. And that's not wear the ruffles ended. High harlequin-esque collars adorned a multitude of ensembles as did chunky summer scarves.

Aside from the impressive dresses, the utilitarian-style jackets were standouts. Sharply cut and totally flattering they came in shades of blue (as seen here), tan, and army green. Those were the more wearable items, others, like the black lattice suit, not so much. But then again with two equally fashion-forward icons of pop in the audience one never knows.

Super Catchy Tune Lady Gaga's 'The Edge of Glory'

Leave it to Lady Gaga to hit No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 without really trying.

A few weeks ago, Gaga released the anthemic number "The Edge of Glory" as a promotional single to pump fans up over the release of Born This Way, her second full-length studio album. But the track proved so popular the powers that be released it as the third official single from the album—and it subsequently debuted in the top 3. Because Gaga's got it like that.

So what is it about this track that people love so much?

Well, "Edge of Glory" epitomizes the Springsteen-esque power balladry that pops up all over Born This Way, with a familiar belt-it-out chorus that'll find favor with anyone who loved listening to the radio late '80s. It even features a saxophone solo by Clarence Clemons of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band.

It's also one of Gaga's personal favorites on the album. In an interview with Google, she explained, "[My] grandpa died about five months ago, and my dad and I were going to say goodbye to him at the hospital, and I got out a big thing of agave tequila and my dad sat next to me at the piano and we started doing shots back and forth, and I wrote 'Edge of Glory' on the piano and my dad and I cried. The song's about your last moment on Earth, the moment of truth, the edge of glory is that moment right before you leave earth."

"You can quote me on this: People love you when they think you won't be around for very long, and people hate you when they can't get rid of you. But I'm not going anywhere."

Lady Gaga's Birthday Gift*

March 28 Born This Day concert continued:

when Lady Gaga's bully got the role of Dorthy at school: “I will never forget it because I wanted to be Dorothy so bad," said Lady Gaga. "I was in 8th grade and she was a senior. I definitely deserved to get it, but I didn’t get it. I remember she would speak in the dressing room while she was getting ready, I was one of the people in the chorus, the worst role."

"She used to pour Coca Cola on her shoes to keep her from slipping on stage. She would pour Coca Cola on her shoes and look at me and say...”just in case I slip.”
"On behalf of myself and all of those bullied around the world, now these fucking ruby slippers are mine.”

Prior to singing 'Born This Way' she said, "When you don’t feel like Dorothy today, maybe you feel like someone on the chorus or the Scare Crow or maybe you feel like the Tin Man or the Wicked Witch--just know you will have opportunities in your real life to change things and maybe someone, somebody will hand you a pair of ruby slippers." -everything from surprise Lady GaGa concert tickets, friends, cakes, cupcakes, macaroons, & drinks-
Celebrated my birthday eve at Gaga's concert (she turned 25 yesterday, & I turned 23 today) with one of my best friends. We all sang her happy birthday, and the dancers brought her cake on stage along with an amazing gift: an original pair of Judy Garland's ruby red slippers, from "Wizard of Oz"*

her Birthday wish: Happiness for all her fans.

Hailey Clauson - Stunning FOURTEEN year old model which reminds me of Adriana Lima.

She's so adorable. I had a dream that I was tanning with her. One of my classes includes me searching for models and of course I had to choose her to showcase in my "fashion show". She was so nice in the dream... Funny, 'cause I'm unable tan.
